How to Help

Sponsor / Donate

Our preservation work depends on private and corporate donations. Contact us about proposed donations, or to see what we’re in need of. Here are some of the people and companies that have supported us so far:

Volunteer

If you wish to donate your time and labor, we can always use more volunteers. Here are a few key positions:

  • Restorer: Help to restore our locomotive or conduct other on-site tasks. Possible tasks include machining, rust-busting, and general manual labor.
  • Researcher: View items at libraries such as Stanford, CSRM, and public libraries. We have lists of items to review and some is just detective work.
  • Website Work: Maintain and update the website, including news.
  • Business Management and Fundraising: “Non profit is a tax status, not a business plan.” Please contact us with your ideas.
  • Education Specialist: Provide curriculum content for Californian history students.

Getting Started

To “apply” for a volunteer position, fill out the contact form below. This will notify us so that we can initiate a conversation via email.

Notes about on-site work: Since the site is gated and surveilled by camera, you will initially need to coordinate with a volunteer who has access in order to attend (work days do not have a regular schedule to them at the current time). Most of the site is exposed directly to the elements, so get ready to get your hands dirty. We do have some personal protective equipment (safety glasses/goggles, hard hats, headphones, dust masks) available for use on-site, but we recommend that you bring your own.
